Introduction
Urgent and Emergency care is one of the busiest departments at the George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton, with up to 230 patients seen daily in the department, often more at weekends. Over the past few years, there has been a huge initiative aimed at reducing waiting times and improving care within the department.
Project
Recently, the George Eliot Hospital was looking to make major changes to the way their A&E department received and funnelled their patients. Their goal was to make it more efficient and give a better-quality patient experience. Alongside the streamlining of their intake, they also wanted to refresh the department, which was looking dated and tired.
BetweenGlassBlinds
George Eliot A&E had bays with dividing walls and wanted to move away from the traditional blue privacy curtains to a more modern option. Architectural metalwork specialist Eagledale was tasked with designing and installing a solution that was aesthetically pleasing and was instrumental in infection control.
The innovative result was a bespoke designed sliding door system complete with BetweenGlassBlinds integral blind units. The blinds were chosen in a complementary colour and were specified to have magnetic controllers on both sides for both patient and staff privacy. The units were Tilt Only and were made of 6mm toughened glass. The doors would be a barrier against the spread of infection as well as being environmentally friendly as the curtains required regular changing and cleaning. The BGB integrated blinds require no maintenance and are safe from dirt, spills and odours.
